Alphabet Telephone Game

A telephone-style game for 3rd and 4th grade where students write letters on each other's backs to practice letter shape.

My JTE had this idea and it went so well I thought I'd share.

Each vertical row of students is a team. Give the students in the very front of each row a piece of paper to write their team's answer on.

The student seated in the back stays awake, while the teacher asks all other students to go to sleep (close their eyes).

ALT writes a letter on the chalkboard, makes sure all students who are awake have seen it and know what it is, and then erases the letter.

Ask students to wake up. The student who knows the letter writes it on the back of the student directly in front of them. This repeats until the student in the first row has been drawn on and guesses the letter by writing it on their piece of paper.

Once all rows have answered, ask each team to state their guess and reveal the correct letter.

Have the very back student come to the front desk and each student moves one desk back for the next round.

This gets especially fun when you throw in harder letters like M, N, R, P, etc. The kids were super motivated and loved it. This can be great practice for writing letters in uppercase and lowercase!
