Vocabulary Punchout

Take a swing at whatever vocabulary your class needs to review. Knock out the entire word's health bar to win! A solid warm-up game if I do say so myself.

I was working on a project for my current job and figured y'all could use something similar over there in Japan. If you like it, maybe I'll make a different version where the player also has a health bar along with the word your knocking out. The game is pretty simple:

Objective: Use a vocabulary word in a sentence and every time it is used correctly the word loses health until it is defeated

How it works:

  • Before you play, set the word you want used into the slides. MAKE SURE TO CHANGE THE WORD, BUT KEEP THE TEXT BOX! The animations won't work if you throw a new textbox in there.

  • The punches can be moved around wherever you want and each of the slides actual gameplay slides have different health bars (check the notes to see which slides have bigger/smaller health bars)

  • Duplicate as many of these slides as you need, i recommend doing only about 5-6 words before the engagement starts to slip away

With your students

  • Show your students the demo slide to give them an idea of how it all works. If they say a sentence with the vocab word correctly than they get a punch. If it's used incorrectly than no punch.

  • The game can be played a few different ways. You could just see how long it takes them to take down one word, or divide them into teams to compete on who can knock out their word the fastest.

  • This is meant as a warm-up, so try to keep whatever you plan to be around 10 minutes or the game may lose its appeal on older students
