Let's Try! 2 - Unit 6 Activities and pwerpoints

Digital materials and printouts for Unit 6 - Alphabet from start to finish.

These are all the materials that I have made for my 4th grade for Unit 6.
I have listed and detailed everything in order of how I would use them but please feel free to use them however they best fit your needs.

Alphabet Review (powerpoint)
This powerpoint is best used during the first lesson of Unit 6.
The main goal of this powerpoint is to get students thinking about the alphabet and build a relationship with the alphabet and their everyday lives.
It’s a very simple and short activity that will also helps the teacher understand what the students already know.
The last slide is for comparing the uppercase and lowercase alphabets. You could ask the students to name the letters that have a similar uppercase and lowercase shape, for example “o” and “O”.
Click on the lowercase letters to have the uppercase versions show up next to them.

Animal Paradise (pdf printout)
I do not own this but thought it should be made available to all teachers.
This was an activity that was in the old 6th grade textbook “Hi friends! 2” and it is similar to the find the alphabet activity in “Let’s Try! 1”.
Students in the past loved doing these activities and it wasn’t any different this year. Also a good way to sneakily introduce some phonics.

Alphabet Paradise answers (powerpoint)
This powerpoint zooms in on the activity above and highlights the answers to make it easy to check all the answers. Just move to the next slide to reveal the next answer etc.
The last slide shows all the answers.

Alphabet Match (pdf printout)
This activity isn’t very original but it’s simple and easy to understand.
The goal of this activity is to check students understanding of the lowercase alphabet in relation to the uppercase. Best used around the 1st or 2nd lesson of this unit.
I tried to make it look not so basic by making the entire worksheet Mario themed.

Alphabet Match (powerpoint)
This powerpoint will match all the letters of the alphabet in order automatically with just one click.

Abc Dot to Dot (pdf printout)
A simple Halloween themed abc dot to dot worksheet.
I changed it so that uppercase and lowercase letters alternate as it’s a good way to check the students knowledge and ability at the start of the unit. Very straight forward so should be used in the first couple of lessons of the unit.

Abc Dot to Dot answer (powerpoint)
This powerpoint shows how to complete the above dot to dot worksheet.
Just click once on the second slide and the lines will be automatically connected to reveal the dot to dots final form.

Alphabet Switch (powerpoint)
The letters are switched around and the students have to point out which letters are switched.
Just follow the notes on the powerpoint and they’ll tell you which letters to click to restore order to the alphabet. Quick and easy way to test the students memory of the lowercase alphabet.

Alphabet Maze (pdf printout)
The goal of this worksheet is to help the cat bus reach Totoro by connecting the letters in order starting from a to z. The catch however is that both uppercase and lowercase letters are used, so students need to be careful and look ahead of each letter in order to finish the maze correctly.

Alphabet Maze answer (powerpoint)
This powerpoint shows how to complete the above maze worksheet.
Just click once on the second slide and the way will be revealed automatically.

Alphabet Invasion (powerpoint)
This is my take on hangman and I have different versions according to grade level. I mainly use this for my special needs classes at JHS but I have created this powerpoint to supplement the Let’s Try! 2 textbook. The words used in this powerpoint are words that the students can find on pages 22 - 23. This activity focuses on the target language “Do you have (a, b, c… z)?” to complete the words of each slide.
Use the example slide to explain how to play. The example word is h e l l o, start off by letting the class know how many letters there are and then use the teachers to demonstrate by asking “Do you have 〜?” and responding with “Yes, I do. I have 〜.” or “No, I don’t. I don’t have 〜.” Just click on the letters and they’ll either raise up or drop down depending on the word.

Each word is revealed in the notes, and since I don’t think it’s very difficult, students can make 5 mistakes but if they make a 6th mistake the character will unfortunately be abducted. If the letter is wrong and drops down then click on the “X”. For the 5th and 6th incorrect letters, click on the UFO itself.
If all the letters of the word are revealed then click on the character to have them runaway from danger.
I thought that this would be a novel and somewhat fun way to practice the target language of this unit. Make sure that you have sound.
