I prepared this based on page 44 of NH2U3 (2021), but I think it's fairly versatile (in terms of being used to write about work experience!).
OVERVIEW
Students use the worksheet and their textbooks to write about what they did for their work experience and then use their sentences to play BINGO!
PREPARATION
Students will all need a copy of the worksheet.
PRODECURE
1. Get the students to fill in the blank at the top with where they went (in English!)
2. We gave them about 5 minutes to think about everything that they did. They can brainstorm in the rectangle and use Japanese if they want to.
3. For about 15 minutes they need to write about what they did in English. It's very important that they use at least 2 verbs from the toolbox! Of course, more is okay, but 2 is the minimum!
4. Next is BINGO! Students need to turn over their papers. You can give a simple example demonstration of the dialogue with your JTE. Basically, student A can circle the verbs on their BINGO card that are used by student B. Students can walk around the class and talk to anyone they want.
We let them play BINGO for about 10 minutes/whatever remaining time there was.
Example
A: Where did you go?
B: I went to a supermarket.
A: What did you do?
B: I greeted customers and I learned how to make displays.
student A circles (I greeted) and (I learned how to) on the BINGO card
NOTES
- We ended up using the whole class, but it could maybe go shorter depending on how quickly they're able to finish writing STEP 2/how much you want them to write
- I found that giving them that space to first write in Japanese led to them writing a lot more interesting sentences in English than they usually would
- Of course, for the writing portion they can use other verbs than what is given, just as long as they use at least 2 from the list!
- For the speaking part, my JTE just told them to just read everything they wrote from STEP 2 - 2.
