MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Pens and a standard 3x3 or 4x4 bingo grid. Any listening material from the textbook or CD.
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Inform students that they will be listening to a passage and give them a brief outline of it, eg "You will listen to a boy called John about soccer".
- Ask students to guess 9 words that may come up in the passage. For the soccer example, students may write down words like "ball, David Beckham, goal, dream, field..." etc. Have them write the words in their bingo grid.
- Read the passage/play the CD. If the students hear one of their words mentioned they can cross it off until they get a straight line, which would then be bingo.
VARIATIONS:
- The grid can be made bigger if you want the game to go on for longer.
- Any bingo variations can be used for extra fun
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- This activity could quite possibly be used for JHS but it definitely suits HS level.
