A row race where students attempt to fill in as many body parts on a stick figure, within five minutes, as possible.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • The first student of each row goes up to the board and draws a stick figure, adding one additional body part to it, the following students simply add in body parts to the figure. For example, they draw a pair of eyes on the face and label it with the appropriate word. They can do "outside" and "inside" parts (internal organs).
  • By the end of the game, the stick figures will have amazing hair, beautiful lips, rosy cheeks, hearts, fingernails, etc. You'll be amazed by the random body parts they sometimes come up with. You may also discover creative spellings that accompanies said body parts.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • To produce more accurate spellings, allow the students to use dictionaries.
  • When counting up the scores, award two points for correct spelling and 1 for incorrect spelling (basically you're rewarding the attempt and they'll leave the classroom have learned the correct spelling anyway).

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Obviously the potential for kids labelling "embarrassing" body parts exists but I have not yet encountered this. The raciest term I've yet encountered was "bust". It largely depends on what type of school and class you're teaching.
