There are twelve questions in this activity. In each question, there are three hints ( statements ). The ALT can either read all of the hints and students would just listen , or you can have the students read the hints instead. Choose what works best for your students. In some of my classes, I read the hints and let students listen to me as they look at the screen and read along silently. There are many slow learners in some of my classes so forcing them to read together can be demanding.
Step 1. Students get into groups.
Step 2. Read the hints or have the students read the hints.
Step 3. After giving them all the hints, you will be led to a slide with a question " What have you been doing?". Students need to think and construct a sentence following the pattern " I have been -ing".
Here`s an example ( Question 1)
Hint 1. You have been walking in AEON Mall for two hours.
Hint 2. You have been going to many stores for a long time.
Hint 3. You have been buying many things since this afternoon.
Answer: I have been shopping/ going shopping.
When you are ready to have your students write their answer on their whiteboard, click anywhere on the question slide and a red line will start to appear on the lower left side of the screen. It will move towards the right side for 30 seconds. Students need to write their answer within this time frame. When time is up, a message " Time to Stop" will appear on the screen. You can delete this timer function if you want or use other timer application that suit your needs.
Step 4. Reveal the answer to your students. You may have them read the answer or ask them to repeat it after you. You may give full or higher points for groups with the correct answer and reduced points for those with minimal mistakes. You may ask the JTE to help you keep track of the group points.
Feel free to modify the contents or improve it. The new grammar point is proving to be very challenging even for JTEs to teach. This activity is far from perfection, but if this could inspire you to make more fun and engaging materials, it would be great for everyone here.
Note: This material has a lot of color coding and visual guide. This was created to ease the difficulty of slow learners, students with learning disabilities and challenges like dyslexia.
Ah present perfect continuous, it really is the new mountain for junior high teachers to climb.
You can rig the slides to last for a set amount of time, so that with one click, you can let it transition smoothly through each part
Thank you for the tip Lucasmh. I
m not so good with PPT but I
m learning a lot from everyone here.
