Bobbing for Apples!

Bobbing for apples: points game.

Bobbing for Apples points activity!

Update: I added a version with question boxes.

(click on the title to a link of a YouTube video demo of apple bobbing. Skip forward to around 1m 30s for the action!)

This is a simple points system in time for Halloween. Get the students to complete the task of your choice then choose an apple for points. Jack-o-lanterns are -10 points. The maximum amount of points possible increases each screen but the number of jack-o-lanterns increases too. I recommend that the ALT clicks the apple as the wave animation covers the bottom part of some of the apples, so it`s best to click on the very top part of the apples (or you can tell your students to if you prefer). Sorry, I went for style over function...

I hope you and your students have fun as always! Have a good day and a great Halloween!

Style is just as important as function. Never apologize for that. This is fantastic work. I think you could bring it even further if you had a cackling jack-o-lantern gif in there when the apples are clicked. Looks great. Personally I stay away from using animated gifs on the play slides since I've found they can cause the tablet's powerpoint to crash when connected to a projector. Usually not a problem but it can on slides with a lot of powerpoint animations. But if its being used on a computer shouldn't be an issue.

Mind you I haven’t had that problem so much recently so I think Microsoft has updated their PowerPoint app to deal with animated gifs better but I still tend to use them a bit more sparingly because of past issues.

I agree that some computers fry when they get near gifs. Mine have in the past so I limit it to one or two gifs at most per slide. I also carry a HDMI and converter on me to make sure that if I bring something big in, it will work no matter what, but that is just because I am real extra haha

It hasn’t been an issue over the last few months so I’ve started including animated gifs on some Game Slides although never all of them. Last year thought it was always an issue with the. Tablet and projector. If I really wanted the animated gifs in a presentation I’d lug the computer into class and then switch to the tablet for the game play.

And any game with animated gifs I either removed them or retired the activity if it was one I’d run on a tablet.

This looks wonderful! I will try with my adult learners. Thank you!
