Here's a visual I made for the Grade 5 students. This should be shown on the board via a projector or printed out very large. It works for the small talk in the textbook (Here we Go 5) for Unit 7 about ordering food and practicing "What would you like" "I would like". Please feel free to use it!!
I modeled the small talk by myself as both the roles of the pizza restaurant attendant and the customer by running between 2 sides of the room. Next, the teacher was the customer. Lastly I let students volunteer to be the customer. It was both funny and engaging. (The teachers liked it so much that we incorporated it into our speaking challenge.)
OPTIONAL Props:
-Bring a hat that you wear every time you are the pizza restaurant attendant.
-If you have 2 phones or want to make fake ones out of paper, it makes the students more excited to volunteer as they'll get to hold the phone up to their face and it feels more like a real phone conversation
Here is the dialogue:
Dominos: Hello, this is Dominos Pizza!
Customer: Hello
D: What would you like? point at flavors
C: I would like ____ seafood pizza _____
D: Okay! What size would you like? point at sizes
C: I would like ____ a large ______
D: Great! Anything else? point at add-ons
C: I would like ____ a salad and 2 waters please _____
D: Okay! We will be at your house in 20_ minutes.
C: Thank you, bye!
D: Bye!
P.S. You can make it even funnier by ordering a lot of food and/or making the delivery time long or super fast!
I love this so much! I've used it a couple times and it's so simple, clean, and easy to use! The students also really enjoy messing around with it -- even in my lower-interaction classes. Thank you!
YAYYYY!!! Late reply, but I'm so happy to hear that. The simplicity is what makes it easy for them to jump in hopefully :D
Have a great 2024!!!
