Chainsaw Man Warm-up

Any easy warm-up game for JHS to practice answering and asking questions using chainsaw man characters to get them motivated

Even though I am not an ALT anymore, watching this show got me thinking of how fun it would be to make a new game about it. Being one of my games, you best believe I made it as extra as possible. The concept is based on one of my last pokemon games I made for elementary school.

The rules are quite simple. You will ask a question to your class (How was your winter vacation? Where do you like to go on the weekend? etc...) and whomever answers pics a card. When you click on the card, it will display a character and each character has a different effect

Denji (safe): After answering, nothing happens and you move on

Aki (ask a teacher): The student asks you or another teacher the question you asked them

Makima (choose the next student): This student gets to choose who has to answer the next question

Power (ask a neighbor): The student has to ask one of their neighbors the question you just asked

There are three rounds built into this thing

All the fun of chainsaw man references, but none of the gore or profanity. Enjoy

Where does one draw the line with which animes to use in class I wonder, Chainsaw Man has some really explicit stuff in it that teachers probably shouldn't be seen to be promoting. Your call tho...

if you think its a question mark check with your teaching partner. There is an odd relationship between gaming material and popular mature themed anime and schools. I've worked at schools where they explicitly tell students not to play video games and yet there were Mario Pictures on the classroom walls. And at the height of Demon Slayer popularity there were signs at my elementary school saying the kids shouldn't watch it but the teachers were also giving out Demon Slayer stickers as rewards.

The way I see it, I'd rather make it and get it out of my head and have it rejected than to not make it at all. Japan is a weird country with weirder rules on what is and is not acceptable for children. Work with your teachers and do what works with them and your students

@sakotodan I think with material like Chainsaw Man it's one of those, "we all know the kids are watching it regardless of whether they should or not" and students often talk about the anime or openly admit to watching. So like many have said, do what fits best for your colleagues and students, but I think in general just using the characters and not "promoting" any of the other aspects of a media is usually safe enough when its generally accepted that the students watch it.

From the North American lens it's similiar to kids dressing up as Jason for Halloween. Those movies are certainly not intended for kids but the image of the character is in the popular culture and exists beyond the original material.
      Also
@lucasmh, the chainsaw cutting the cards animation is very slick.

@GaeilgeAmee, yeah I agree, it's talked about by many of my students regardless of whether or not they should be watching it. But it's quite a leap to say, 'kids are talking about this explicit thing, so I will now create and display content from it in the school'. Also, if you ask a teacher 'is it okay if I _____?' they're going to say 'oh hai hai zehi zehi' 99% of the time because they're trying to be polite but that doesn't mean they think its in good taste or to be encouraged.
