Activity

Let's order some food!

Students are put in groups and either have to pretend to be servers in a restaurant or customers and go to other groups to try order food.

This activity relates to New Horizon 1, Page 116

I created this activity based off two other great activities, the Disney Directions Activity and another activity which created some of menu, but I can't find it. So if you know it, please tell me so I can link it!

Note:
- this activity worked well for my class of 13 students. You might need to add more restaurants or add more to the ‘to do’ lists so some students aren’t left bored.

Prep:
- Print slides 4 – 10.
- First run through the example conversation with the students.
- Split the class into four groups, give each group the restaurant name card and the ‘to do’ list.

How to play:
- One student from each group must go to another restaurant to try complete one of the orders on their ‘to do’ list.
- One student from each group must stay at the restaurant and be the server.
- Once the students order the food they must roll a dice.
- If they roll a 1 – 3 they can not complete the order. If they roll a 4 – 6 they can check off the order on their ‘to do’ list.
- If they can’t complete the order, the student must go back to their own restaurant and the next student must go and try complete an order.

I tried this today and my students loved it! We didn't have dice, so I had them do janken with the server instead. It got very lively!

If any teams finished before the others, I let them come try and order from me or the JTE from an English Genki Sushi menu printed on A3 paper. If they did it, they could get a sticker. https://www.genkisushiusa.com/menu
