This is a lesson addressing Junior High New Crown 3 Talk 1, which is about recommending places to travel to. It includes a review of the textbook as well as a customizable pair speaking activity.

Here is the flow of the PowerPoint:

  1. I begin with a small talk warm up dialogue. You can do this with your OTE for an example and then students should talk in pairs.
  2. Introduce the topic "Which place do you recommend?" and goals "Ask questions." and "Give information."
  3. (Optional) Show the video of Hakodate from the digital textbook.
  4. Listen to the textbook dialogue or read it with your OTE.
  5. Ask the students for the meaning in Japanese of the textbook dialogue.
  6. Students should practice reading the textbook dialogue in pairs after repeating the pronunciation from you.
  7. Students verbally fill in the blanks in the dialogue.
  8. Review new words.
  9. Explain that students are going to plan and recommend their own vacation. Read the example dialogue.
  10. Students take about 8 minutes to fill in the worksheet to "plan their vacation."
  11. Students should make pairs and have the dialogue on the worksheet, using their memo to help make recommendations.
  12. Students should switch pairs multiple times (You can have the front student move to the back and all other students move forwards).
  13. Choose pairs randomly to share their dialogue with the class!

The way this is absolutely perfect! It's exactly what I envisioned doing but didn't want to make the PowerPoint.
