Let's Learn Onomatopoeia!

This PP file contains 21 Slides of onomatopoeia for Elementary School students. The first 16 slides are exclusively of animal-based onomatopoeia. The rest includes objects and a couple of funny images too!

Instructions:
1. Project PowerPoint to students.
2. With translations on Slide 1 and JTE's help, explain the concept of onomatopoeia.
3. Get students to repeat the English noun of the animal/object displayed. If students do not understand noun from provided picture, get JTE to translate.
4. Firstly, ask the students what the onomatopoeia for the animal/object would be in Japanese. Reveal answer.
5. Secondly, ask the students what the onomatopoeia for the animal/object might be in English. Reveal answer.
6. Get students to say the English onomatopoeia together.
7. Repeat for as few or as many as desired.

Notes:
1. As I am from Australia, I have used an Australian flag to represent the English translation. Please change flag to your own country if desired.
2. For some English onomatopoeic words I could not find the Japanese version. In this case, ask students what they think it might sound like.
3. Powerpoint deliberately includes all animals (apart from a fox) in the song 'What does the Fox Say.' If desired, you could link that song to this activity.
4. This resource is not designed to be used in one lesson. The number of slides provided is merely to provide choice for one lesson, or materials for several lessons.
