The Ultimate Animal Quiz 🐾

A PowerPoint with a wide range of fun questions about 24 different animals from around the world. This is perfect as a warm up activity or a full-sized lesson for special needs.

I was in charge of making a PPT game for English Camp back in July, 2023. I changed the title to "The Ultimate Animal Quiz" to make it more appropriate to share with you all. Feel free to change it to something more interesting. :)
The theme for this year's English camp as you can tell is camp-themed.

- Zootopia

- What's that Animal?

      Holy... This is the best!

      How much you've considered is amazing. I particularly like how the 3 hint quiz questions are all animals in the standard New Horizons picture dictionary, while the multiple choice and camouflaged questions go outside of the textbook.

      I used it in a 6th grade class in groups with whiteboards, getting them to write in English using their picture dictionary: With pixelated and 3HQ questions, I counted down from 10 seconds between each step and students could write an answer and flip their whiteboard early for bonus points (e.g. "I am black and white" -> group feels confident writes PANDA early and flips whiteboard -> "I can swim" -> group realizes they're wrong but can't change their answer). And for sound questions, I had one representative from each group form a semi-circle around the TV and the first to point it out won 5 points for their team (this got a little too competitive but I can't think of better way to do it).

      Thanks so much for this!

      I'm not going to sugar coat it, seeing the word "cringe" written on here made me chuckle. The name I think is great for early level English Learners! "Ultimate Animal Quiz" makes it sound epic so no worries about it sounding "cringe" haha :D Also, this is fantastic and well done! Thank you for the google drive link as well!!

      @jason Thank you! The PPT is aimed at ES students so I used a lot of the animals from the PD book haha

      And wow, sounds like a fun lesson. I will definitely try something similar to yours in my special needs class.

      Well, there's nothing wrong with some competition haha.
      Maybe a suggestion could be is instead of giving out points during the "Guess the animal" question, if they get it correct, they get to choose the next question.

      @jbjoker2 I couldn't think of a better word to describe it 😂
      And thanks so much for the lovely comment.

      What a wonderful slide show! I love the variety, and the extra videos are a fun touch. Somehow, I am really struggling to find the snake in the camouflaged photo, even when the arrow pops out! Does anyone have any tips on how I can see it? Or does anyone have a photo outlining the snake?

    10. unoplusunoistu October 23, 2023

      @suikasuki It's definitely a challenging one but once you see it, you can't unsee it! It's right in the center of the picture and looks like an "S".

      Where's the butterfly? The PowerPoint plays the reveal music but doesn't indicate where it is... Either it needs an arrow or a quick note in the slide notes. Great PowerPoint though my old computer is struggling to get through it...

    12. jiggswalsh September 19, 2024

      Apologies. I tried it on my own laptop and it works great. I can see the butterfly!!

    13. unoplusunoistu September 19, 2024

      @jiggswalsh
      The video should play immediately after you press the space button or right key.
      It is quite a heavy powerpoint with all the animations and videos playing haha 😅
      And yes, I think out of all the find the xxx Qs, the butterfly is definitely the hardest!

      Your skills are amazing. Whatever it is they paid you it wasn't enough. Whatever your doing now they're not paying you enough.
