Ss are grouped into 4 teams and are given a balloon which they blow up and decorate with marker pens, stickers etc.
They are then informed that this will be a balloon battle where they must try to pop the other balloons.
The presentation shows how the class has been turned into a game board where they must choose a teammate to become a "knight" who is given a funky hat with team colours and a safety pin.
Each team positions their knight on the game board (space in the classroom) and begins a multiple choice general knowledge quiz.
Ss work together to choose the correct answer, write it on a whiteboard then raise it in the air.
A correct answer means that team can direct their knight to move 1 space. The team with the fastest answer moves first.
When knights share the same space they play janken. The loser must return to their starting position.
When knights make it to another teams castle they play janken. If the knight loses they return to the start. If the castle's team loses the balloon is popped.
Spaces with question marks are also scattered around the map that let the player choose a 1 time use ability card.
Once a teams balloon is popped they can still continue to move their knight and play until on one team remains.
Note: I played this game with my ESS club which has around 15-20 students each week. For larger classes it may require more teams.
