Based of the Snap! card game. Each student gets a deck of 7 cards. Students flip cards at the same time. If there is a match, they yell snap! The one who yells snap! first reads out the question for the loser to answer (using the target grammar) and collects both cards. Students continue until one person runs out of cards.
The questions include: Why do you like or dislike Myoko Kogen / winter / summer / sports / music / manga / chocolate?
Example:
(Student flip cards and it’s a match. Both cards read " Why do you like or dislike chocolate?")
Snap!
Winner: Why do you like or dislike chocolate?
Loser: I like chocolate because it’s sweet.
(Winner collects both cards. The game continues)
Demonstrate with JTE before starting.
Preparation: You'll have to print the cards and laminate them ahead of class. Depending on class size, this might take a while.
Notes:
1. The target grammar for this lesson was why...because. However, the cards can be modified to practice other grammar points.
2. I included a card about my placement. You might want to change this question as I doubt many will know where Myoko Kogen is.
3. If you want to make it more difficult for the students remove the images so that they are actually forced to read the cards.
4. I printed an autumn background on the cards because it's November and Thanks giving season atm, feel free to change it.
loser*. Sorry to nitpick, but it is a pet peeve.
Thank you for pointing it out :)
It seems like a nice idea, but there's no way I'm gonna have enought time to cut out individual sets of cards for 37 students! Plus that's a whole lot of color printing, I'm not sure my school would be happy about it. Any ideas for an alternative, maybe one a bit less material-intensive?
