TLDR
- Make pairs
- Do rock, paper, scissors. Winner goes first
- Students decide on a colour for their chip (red vs yellow, green vs purple, etc) (highlighters work best!)
- Student must make a sentence before dropping their chip
- They can keep track who won in each round on their worksheet
- When they finish a round, they come up to you to get a new sheet
WORKSHEET VERSION A
- Blank template with rules on the side
WORKSHEET VERSION B
- Battleship like grid with the first half of the sentence on the left, and the other half at the bottom
WORKSHEET VERSION C
- Insert a word, picture, sentence or anything you like in the empty circles
ATTACHMENTS:
- Connect 4 - Worksheet Template: Making a worksheet is optional. You can make your worksheet using this template.
- Connect 4 Board + Instructions: This Connect 4 sheet is what I hand out first to each pair
- Connect 4 Board (2in1): Once they finish the first round (the sheet above), they can get a new sheet. Make sure you print a lot of this to hand out.
- Connect 4 (Worksheet Ver.): PPT to explain activity
- Other: You can see all the worksheets I've made so far. Hopefully the different varieties inspire you to make your own version.
NOTE:
- If you want to save paper, you can laminate the connect four boards and have them use coloured markers to draw the circles in.
- This could possibly be used as a warmup if you're given a lot of time (you'll need about 15 or more to play a round or two)
- Instead of making worksheets, you can have words/flashcards on the blackboard for the students to use to make sentences
