This is just your regular old Hangman game where you're given a hint (in this case a basic verb) and have to guess the letters to fill in the blank lines with the right answer (the past simple tense of the verb). However, there's also a twist in that instead of a hangman its a magic library that has a candle that burns out with every wrong letter guessed.
THINGS YOU'LL NEED: Tablet/PC and TV (in classroom)
The link below takes you to a site called wordwall, where if you create an account you'll be able to edit the activity easily if you choose to do so.
HOW TO PLAY:
Like a kahoot, where you share the QR code with the students and they join by adding their name (this is the setting that I have in place with the leaderboard function). There will be a "Set Assignment" icon below the video (you'll only see it if you create an account) use this to set the leaderboard function so that students have to enter their name when they start the game. It's best to set the assignment while in class and share the corresponding QR code that pops up. If you just click the share button under the video and use that QR code the students will only get a link to the website of the game like the one I've placed in this activity to share with you.
Disable the leaderboard function and you will be able to play the game as a whole class. Connect your PC/tablet to the TV and have the students guess the letters and you input them.
*The second option usually gets the kids a bit rowdy, however, if you have a less engaging class I recommend doing the first one because some students might not raise their hands or call out the letters for the second activity.
*I already made a previous version of this for the regular verbs ending in '-ed' so if you want you can go check that out.
