The Price is Right! UK Supermarket and Fast Food

Based on the gameshow, designed for Grade 5 Here We Go 5 Unit 7

This ones for all the British Elementary School ALTs out there!

I'm sure there are many other versions of The Price is Right uploaded on here, but I specifically wanted to be able to bring my own country into the activity so I used the prices from a UK supermarket website. I converted the prices into yen, and the students guessed the prices in yen. If you wanted to make it a little more challenging, you could have them guess in GBP! I made this in January 2024 so very sorry if the exchange rate changes!

I think the best way to do it is to put the students into groups of around 4 students and give them a whiteboard and pen (if available) and take it in turns in the group to read out what they think the price is. I thought it would be a bit of a challenge for me/my OTE to work out which team was closest to the real price, but the students basically did that themselves, but I would have a calculator handy, just in case!

We did the Supermarket prices PPT in one lesson after practicing numbers up to 1000, and then the fast food in the following lesson, as the prices were higher so it was a little harder. The fast food PPT includes McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway and Cocoichi (there's one Cocoichi in London so I HAD to include it!!) but barely any students actually knew Subway, so I switched it out for an extra McDonalds price.

In my classes, we only ended up doing half of each activity (5 slides in each) and each powerpoint took around 10-15 minutes with that, so if you're going to do the entire thing, you could easily drag it out for the majority of a lesson.

I hope you enjoy! :)

Thanks for this, some of my students have been asking for more games so I can use these if I have some extra time during a lesson!
