My 3rd grade JTEs asked me to make a review quiz covering 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade grammar (up to relative pronouns/reduced relative clause) as a class before their HS entrance exams last week. I pulled together a quick power point with questions covering some of the grammar in the order the New Crown textbooks set them out. Round 1 = NC 1; Round 2 = NC 2; Round 3 = NC 3. The goal is to review grammar, so the answers to the questions are relatively obvious (see Q16). It's to test their full sentence capabilities rather than their general knowledge.
I made a separate A4 worksheet (not included, sorry - it's on my work computer and we don't have access to altopedia) with 20 blank spaces for the students to write their answers in groups in full sentences. Having them write full sentences is the key to getting it to stretch to a full 50 minute lesson.
Some of the questions are specific to me and my school so be sure to go through the PPs and change answers to match yourself and your schools (I've edited a couple for anonymity so fill in the blanks).
Specific notes:
- from running this Q8 throws them every time in two ways: first - they don't get it, so I point to each individual picture asking the class "What's this?" "eye" "What's this?" "cola" "uuuuuhhh make gesture holding a can"; second - it clicks and there's a wave of "aaaaaahhhhhh そういうこと!?" across the room (some were quicker than others lol)
- some questions I'll check the individual teams, like Q15 "When my mother came home, I was reading a book" I'll allow "I was reading a book when my mother came home". Or Q20 I'll allow "A famous painting that was painited by Leonardo Da Vinci is (The Last Supper)" etc. Take your own liberties with it.
