New Crown 2 Get Plus 6 pg. 102
Prep: Please print, cut, hopefully laminate, and shuffle the "nice teacher / mean teacher" cards. Print as many cards as there are students in your class. Half should be "nice teacher" cards, half should be "mean teacher" cards.
Introduce the key phrase "Could you ~ please?" and goals of the lesson: make a request and respond yes or no to a request.
Introduce and check the meaning of new words. Note that handout and printout have approximately the same meaning.
Read the comic in the textbook twice. Check if students understand the meaning before translating it for them. Explain that using "Could you~?" is a little bit like the English version of keigo for "Can you ~?" and not to get confused because "could" is usually past tense.
Practice the phrase a few times and read, repeat, and check the meanings of the phrases in the idea box.
Give students the printout and teach "Could/Can you ~ please" , "Would/Will you please ~?" and ways to respond yes or no to these requests.
Students prepare for the conversation activity by writing 5 requests in the blanks on the worksheet.
Then give students their "nice teacher" or "mean teacher card". Tell them to keep it a secret. If they are a nice teacher, they must always respond "yes" when asked questions and if they are "mean" they must always respond "no" to requests.
Students should stand up and use the five requests they wrote to try to find 5 "nice teachers" to sign their paper. When they find 5 "nice" teachers they can sit down.
Students who are finished should complete the comic on the worksheet using at least 2 phrases from class!
Optional: Choose volunteers and project student comics on the board using a document camera!!
