Vocabulary Gradients & Synonyms

A ppt with semantic gradient charts & some synonyms + a word doc with examples sentences.

I have a bad habit of explaining simple things in a non simple way, so if the following doesn't make any sense, hopefully the files will clear up any confusion. Sorry in advance (^_^;)

These "vocabulary gradients" are basically when you have a concept- for example 'temperature'- and you list a bunch of related words spanning from one side of the meaning spectrum to the other (in this case, list a bunch of temperature related words and order them from hot to cold).

The ppt charts are mainly organized so that the horizontal axis (left to right) follows the gradient at the top, and the vertical axis (top to bottom) don't have any particular meaning. The word doc has one example sentence for (almost) every word in the ppt, organized by topics. I used ChatGPT to generate the sentences and some of the vocab words to save a little time on my part, but I did review everything and believe that it sounds natural enough. If you don't like a sentence or feel like a word isn't actually useful, feel free to change things!

If you want to generate your own semantic gradient word lists via ChatGPT, you should be able to use this prompt:
"Please generate a semantic gradient word list related to [topic/word]."

As of now, I'm not even sure how I and my JTE are going to include this in a lesson, but I'm sure it can be useful in one way or another.

I am planning to add more topics and relevant words when I have time or can think of interesting/useful ones, but hopefully these can be of some use for now.

If you have any suggestions or comments, I'll do my best to answer them!
