There are 2 maps of Japan (Sheet A and a sheet B). There are 13 cities named (English/Kanji with furigana) and a box to draw the weather in. The teacher can decide 6 cities for Sheet A and draw simple weather pictures in (make enough copies for half the class) and do the same for the other 6 cities for Sheet B (make enough copies for the other half of the class). Tokyo should be left blank for Sheets A and B so that the class can ask:
Students: “How’s the weather in TOKYO?”
Teacher: “It’s cloudy.”
Students then all draw a small cloud in the box so that they understand and the activity. Next, put the kids in pairs, one with Sheet A and one with Sheet B.
I put Furigana over the Kanji because, previously, there was a version without it but many students couldn’t ready the kanji even after a practice drill of city names. This modified version was much smoother.
* I didn’t draw the weather pictures because Let’s Try Unit 2 just covers “It’s cloudy/ sunny/ snowy/ rainy”. If you are teaching more weather like “windy/ hailing/ stormy/ foggy etc., this version offers more freedom to change it accordingly.
Hello! Thank you for making this activity! I'd like to use it with my class! Would it be possible to add an editable file? 人´∀`)
Sure. It was made using Apple Pages. I’ll put a Pages version and try a converted to Word version too.
The conversion to Word is a little “skew whiff” but you should be able to move the boxes in to better positions with a little patience.
