Set up:
You need to print and cut up the room cards. Make enough for one per student. I also laminated mine so I can reuse them next year.
Objective:
Students must ask eachother "Where is the ________?" to locate all six rooms in the school. They must answer by giving simple directions as written on their card.
Method:
Show the PowerPoint (this is just an aid to help explain the activity.)
Ask "Where is the music room? Is it here? Is it here?" Students might try and guess at this point. "I don't know!"
Do 'repeat after me' to check pronunciation of all the rooms. They should know these from elementary school.
Show the picture of the school - "Let's find all the rooms!"
Demonstrate the activity with your JTE. Do one example where they ask you where a room is and you have the card, and one example where you don't have the card.
For example:
A)
JTE: "Hello! Where is the library?"
ALT: [show students you have the 'library' card, but cover the directions with your hand] "It's on the first floor. It's on the right."
B)
JTE: "Hello! Where is the library?"
ALT: [show students you have any other card] "Sorry! I don't know!"
Hand out the worksheets. Give each student a room card.
Start! It usually doesn't take them too long to finish. Make sure they aren't just copying what their friends have written, and get them to listen to the directions.
Check the answers on the PowerPoint. I usually ask the question, then get the students to chant the answer to me.
Students who found all the rooms, get a sticker.
((For formatting, I use: 'Antique Olive Compact' or 'Segoe UI Black' for titles, and 'UD デジタル UK-R' for body text.))
((Be aware: I always put the month in the top corner of my worksheets, please check it is the correct month!))
