The students in my high school English Club asked me to explain the differences between the pronunciation of "L" and "R" in the English language. Naturally, I had to whip the following presentation up for them. I feel like this is information that has already been taught to my students in their previous years of English classes in elementary and junior high school, so I kept it simple as more of a recap and practice opportunity.
What I really was trying to drive home during this recap session was the tongue placement, using the examples of "La" "ラ" and "Ra". Be sure to take time to have the students practice the words out loud with each other. Ask them where they feel the sound in their mouth when they are saying the words on Slide 5.
All of the slides provide good examples for students to read and repeat. Slide 9 gives you the chance to either do this as a listening exercise, where you read a word and the students must guess which word between the two you are saying, OR, you can use it as more practice for the students to read aloud to each other or to you.
Thanks homies!
**P.S. for Slide 3, with the phoneme definition, I had a JTE with me to translate what the students didn't understand into Japanese. Feel free to omit the definition or the word altogether.
