Students really enjoyed thinking about Japanese words for once and for once not discouraging japanese in the class.
Do the Kanji hint Quiz ppt. Students write their answers on a whiteboard either in groups or pairs after listening to all the hints under an alotted amount of time (I did 1 minute, then an extra bonus point if they could write the English translation).
After counting their points, use the remainder of the time to let the students make their own kanji quiz using " this is a word that has ... " sentences. I encourage them to use kanji they all know and if they`re struggling, make them choose the kanji from somewhere in the classroom.
Let them quiz each other for points. And if you want to test your japanese, let them quiz you.
[I don`t take credit for the kanji quiz questions, just the ppt and wkst.]
Thank you for this! It was great for a filler lesson and my lower level high schoolers were really interested in it!
This is a really fun and interesting activity.
