Originally based off of the excellent Verb Sugoroku (JHS) by lazypanda13, I adapted it to fit the narrow focus of the Here We Go! 2nd year textbook for JHS.
It plays like a standard game of Sugoroku, so you will need some dice. Students can use an eraser or other small item as their game piece on the board.
Students will roll the dice, move their piece, and then make a sentence using the words in the box they land on and one of the target active grammar words (can/will/may etc). They will also have a 'checklist' worksheet, so when they use one of the active grammar words, they tick off a box for it. Once they use it twice, they can't use it again (unless they manage to fill up the whole sheet, in which case they can use whatever they please). The intent is to force them to make some simple sentences using all of the active grammar words
I changed the original bomb spaces to be warp spaces, If a student lands on these, they roll the dice again, and the number they roll is the warp point they go to (they're labelled except for the final one, which is bad luck because it can ONLY send you backwards). If you roll the number of the warp you're currently on, then you don't move.
Included is the board, checklist worksheet (three to a page so you will have to cut the papers after you print) and a powerpoint presentation explaining the rules.
This looks great!
Is this game best played in pairs or groups? and is it one check list per student? or per group/pair?
I did it in groups of 4 or 5, each students having their own individual checklist.
