Super Mario World!
Update: I added a version with some of the slides having two bullet bills as it‘s more fun!
I have used this in JHS, but it would probably be good for high school and elementary school too...
-Students in teams (up to 9 teams).
-Each team starts with 3 hearts drawn on the blackboard (more or less if you like).
-Show them a question (I use whiteboards for them to write the answer, but it can be a speaking activity too).
-JTE and ALT check the answers (correct answer gives +1 heart, I get the students to write the extra heart on the board to save time).
-Then let the students choose where they want to go (top, middle or bottom), then FIRE! Each Mario that is hit by the Bullet Bill loses a life.
-[optional] If a team loses all their hearts, they have to do a forfeit to get a heart or say something to make the JTE smile/laugh is always a nice one (not recommended with quiet classes).
I hope you and your students enjoy this as much as I did making it! Have a good day!
This is clever. I might try to make my own version. Thanks.
I look forward to the results!
I've been using this for 2nd grade reviews, with 6 teams. I did initially have them tell me the answers verbally, but switched to whiteboards once I realised the kids get super rowdy. Absolutely love it!
