This is a PowerPoint game to review the phrase "How are you?" and feelings. I used the feelings that are listed in the ES textbook Here We Go 6 so I could use this game as an easy review for JHS 1. But, it can be used for any level. This is a revised version of one my ALT predecessor created/found, so I'm not sure if it is similar to one that already exists on this site. I used Microsoft's emojis to symbolize the feelings.
How to play
First, review the phrase "How are you?" and the associated feelings (happy, sad, angry, fine, hungry, thirsty, sleepy, tired). Slides 2-5 show the feelings/emojis. You may want to talk about the differences between happy/fine and sleepy/tired.
Then, split the class into teams. I usually split the class into two teams (5-10 students each) and let them pick a team name (any English word). This game does not require any group work/moving desks/close contact, so it is good for COVID-19 precautions. Taking turns, ask the students "How are you?" and have them respond "I'm ____." Click on the emoji face to reveal their points! You can keep track of their point totals on the board.
What would you say the difference is between sleepy and tired?
@spreeeeee This was a bit difficult for me to explain. "Tired" is like when you work out and your body needs a rest. "Sleepy" is like when you didn't sleep enough the night before/you're up late and your brain needs a rest.
Great review for special needs class too.
