This is a simple activity for a class to do when you are drilling or reviewing color vocabulary.
In this activity, students have to find anpanman under the colors of the rainbow whilst avoiding baikinman !
Preparation
None ! Everything is in the powerpoint
Before you play
- Drill the color names with the students a healthy number of times (depending on level)
How to play
- Show the students the demonstration slide. Make sure to emphasise that finding baikinman is a bad thing ! They want to find anpanman.
- Show the students the main screen and encourage them to raise their hands to choose a color
- Once a student has chosen a color, click it and wait for the animation to play out. This will reveal either anpanman or baikinman. Click the character to return to the main screen.
- Continue the above until all of the colors have been selected. Once this is the case, press the slightly faded baikinman on the right to switch to the end screen.
Tips/Notes/Advice
- Colors included are: red, yellow, pink, blue, purple, orange, green, black, brown and white
- There is no downside or any forfeit to finding baikinman other than the drama of it. Be sure to give your best "OH NO!" everytime a student finds baikinman and create that tension !
- The Anpanman picture on the left of the main screen will make all of the colors disappear.
- Be careful not to accidently press the anpanman or baikinman to the left and right respectively.
- Brown and black have been added in because my JTE wanted to teach these in addition to the rainbow colors
- For an extra bit of immersion, encourage the students to shout "ANPUNCH [COLOR]" and punch the air as they give you their choice !

It's as easy as turning on the powerpoint and getting the students to say the colors !

I used this with both my 3rd and 4th graders today and they went wild for it! My classes are small (4 kids in one and 8 in the other), so we drew random student numbers for the first 8 'rounds,' the remaining two colors I designated one side of the room as 'purple' and the other side as 'white' (or whatever the last two colors were). Then had the students stand up and move to the color they thought Anapanman was behind. It created some suspense. Also, do encourage the kids to shout 'AN-PUNCH!!' after clicking the color! :)
