This is a powerpoint quiz I created for teacher's to use to review the concept of, "What's this?" This powerpoint has about 8 different slides that you can click on to reveal part of an image (the slides covered in blue squares) or to reveal the entire image. The blue slides contain food that students in 3rd grade should have already learned. Students can try to guess the food based on the part of the image you decide to reveal. If students aren't able to guess in English, guessing in Japanese is okay too. You can also provide extra hints to help students such as, "It's a (shape.) It's (color). Etc..." You can have students keep guessing even if they get the right answer, so that everyone gets a chance to speak.
The images covered by a black shadow reveal the entire picture when clicked on. So make sure to read out the 3 hints to students before you click on the image. Some hints may be a bit difficult, so your main teacher may have to translate in Japanese, or you may have to use big gestures or draw things on the board to help students understand. However, please feel free to change or add anything on this powerpoint to tailor it to your students needs. Hope it helps and saves you some time!
Edit: As suggested, I have created two new versions of the powerpoint. However this time, some slides are covered in shapes of different colors. You can teach the third graders the phrase, "Hint please," so that you can uncover one of the colored shapes (they should have already learned shapes in the previous Unit) then you can ask them what color and shape they'd like to uncover as their hint. If they want to guess, they can or can keep asking for hints. If shapes are too difficult, asking them for only the color works too! Hope this is more fun for your students!
Thanks for this, I really like the idea behind it.
As for the slides with the 4 squares, just an idea based on what I tried:
You can create smaller squares/ rectangles of different shapes to cover the entire screen and also make the picture behind it smaller as to move it to various areas behind the colored shapes. That way it starts as a guessing game to find where the picture is hidden and also you can use it to review colors as well (Have the kids call a color to remove that shape).
My students just started learning this and this is exactly what I was looking for to help supplement their lesson! Can't wait to try it out with them. Thanks for sharing!
