This is a speaking, writing and reading warm up activity.
It is based of the tic-tac-toe activity posted by rebvandev. But I have altered it, changed it into a connect 4 and added a worksheet.
Prep:
Print files
- Print one "connect4_size_A3" for every two students.
- Print one "connect4_worksheet" (A4 size) for every two students.
Laminate the "connect4_size_A3". Students can play multiple times by using whiteboard markers on the laminated sheet and erasing them when needed.
Activity: Part 1
1. Have the students get into pairs.
2. Hand each pair one "connect4_size_A3"
3. Explain the rules of connect 4.
4. Go through all sentences together and make sure all students understand the meaning.
5. Demonstrate with JTE
6. Set a timer. (Students can play as many times during that time)
7. After the time is up, have the students change partner and play again.
8. Each pair returns their A3 and you hand them a worksheet.
Activity: Part 2
1. Have the students write thogether one originally sentence for every row.
2. Go around having a look at what their write, see if anyone has questions and correct if needed.
3. Have them play once more using the worksheet.
Notes:
To my surprie none of my students had ever heard of "Connect 4". So allow yourself enough time to explain the how to play.
