40 lamentable Bingo Cards, Mark-out BINGO PPTX, and Class Flashcards

This tried-and-true activity is a hit for vocabulary-heavy lessons. Whether introducing new words or reviewing at the end of a unit, this lesson cements vocab like no other. My co-teachers are always amazed at how quickly the kids catch on! 🎉

✨ What’s Included:

  1. Vocabulary Speed Review PowerPoint
    • Interactive slides with multiple rounds of vocab practice.
  2. Printable A4 Bingo Cards (40 total)
    • Laminated and cut in half for 2 students/card (40 students max).
  3. Mark-out Bingo PowerPoint
    • Clickable visuals to keep everyone on track.
  4. Classroom Flashcards
    • Large A4-sized cards for extra review or future projects.

🗓️ Lesson Plan:

1) Vocabulary Speed Review (7–15 minutes)

Kick off the lesson with a fast-paced PowerPoint to teach or reinforce vocab. Kids walk away knowing the words, and it’s a great way to wow your co-teachers!

How it works:

- Round 1: Guess the vocab word based on the Japanese translation + picture. Repeat after the teacher.

- Round 2: Auto-timed slides—students say the vocab as it appears.

- Round 3: Shuffled vocab slides—students keep saying the words!

- Round 4: Only pictures (no words)—students name the vocab on their own.

2) Bingo Game (15–25 minutes)

Prep the materials ahead of time:

- Print and laminate Bingo cards.

- Cut in half and give one to each student.

- Supply students with dry erase markers and erasers/tissues.

How to play:

1. Each student gets a picture-based Bingo card.

2. A student starts by saying the key phrase:

“I want a(n) [place name].”

3. All students find and mark the place on their boards.

4. The teacher marks off the place on the PowerPoint Bingo slide for visual support.

5. Rotate students to say the key phrase until someone gets BINGO!

Erase boards after each round and keep playing! Winners can write their name on the blackboard to celebrate.

Rounds to try:

- Round 1: Normal Bingo (any line).

- Round 2: Diagonal Bingo.

- Round 3: “I” Bingo (3 lines that look like a capital "I").

- Round 4: “N” Bingo (3 lines, 2 on the far left and right, 1 diagonal through the middle to make a capital "N").

- Round 5: “Heart” Bingo (It looks like a heart).

Optional Variation:

After each round, have students swap boards with a neighbor for added fun!

3) Optional Review (5 minutes)

Use the laminated flashcards to review the vocab at the end of class. Shuffle through them and have students name each place. These cards are also handy for spelling practice during poster projects.

This is awesome! Would you mind sharing the other units too?

Yes, this is really good. Looks great, but also a proper way to teach the material as opposed to just a game so that the students retain the vocab.
