Tried and true SUPER Vocab Memorization Day:
This unit goes into place names in a town (i.e. school, aquarium, restaurant, etc). Even though some of the places the kids know from previous lessons, my JTE and I really wanted to cement the old + new vocab before getting into the book. (You could also do this to review at the end of the unit)
Included:
Vocabulary Speed Review PowerPoint
Printable A4 Bingo Cards (40) that you can laminate and cut in half. (2 students minimum - 40 students maximum)
Bingo PowerPoint
Classroom flashcards for review
Lesson Plan:
1) Vocabulary Speed Review (7-15min)
I do this PPTX at the start of every unit but this is the first time I'm sharing the document! (Let me know if you want my other units)
Kids get pretty into this and 90% seem to walk away knowing all the new vocab at the end. Your co-teachers usually are shocked lol~
Start the PPTX
Round 1
- Click to go to the next slide.
- Have the kids guess the English vocab word from the screen based on the Japanese translation and picture. Then say the word and have the kids repeat.
Round 2
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- Have the kids say the English vocab word again as they appear. Keep going until you hit the Round 3 slide.
Round 3
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- The vocab slides are now shuffled. Have the kids say the words as the slides appear on the screen.
Round 4
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- The vocab slide shuffled again AND there are only the pictures to go off of! Have the kids say the words as the slides appear!
2) Bingo Game (15-25 min or until the end of class)
Prep:
Print out all the 40 BINGO cards and laminate.
Cut in half and give one to each student.
Each student will also need a dry erase marker and an eraser/tissue.
Game:
How to play
- Each student gets a laminated picture BINGO card.
- One student will say the key phrase to the whole class:
“I want a(n) place name”
- All students will circle or cross out the place on their boards with a dry erase marker.
- The teacher can CLICK on the place images to mark them off (green highlight) on the Bingo PPTX while presenting. That way if someone had a hard time listening they have a visual of what was said.
- Have a different student say the key phrase and keep going until someone has BINGO! (I found the best way to keep the kids speaking is to go in a line based on the desk seating and snake up and down the rows.)
- Erase boards after someone wins and then start the next round! I let the winners write their name on the blackboard at the front of the room.
After "Round 1", I make round 2 ONLY diagonal Bingo (one line is okay). The first student to get a diagonal line wins that round.
Rounds:
-Round 1 normal Bingo
-Round 2 diagonal Bingo
-Round 3 "I" Bingo
-Round 4 "N" Bingo
-Round 5 "Heart" Bingo
Variations:
After each round you could have the kids swap boards with a neighbor.
3) Optional Review (5 min)
- Print out the big A4 flashcards and laminate.
- Have the kids say the place names as you shuffle through them.
We like to keep these on hand for spelling purposes when making posters in the future. These absolutely not necessary if you are limited on materials/supplies.

This is awesome! Would you mind sharing the other units too?
Yes, this is really good. Looks great, but also a proper way to teach the material as opposed to just a game so that the students retain the vocab.
Thanks so much for sharing this!
Thank you so much for uploading! Could I ask where you found your images?
@chuudlez I got them off flaticon.com cause it's free~
