Go Fish! (ordering from a restaurant)

A simple review card game based on Go Fish! featuring popular restaurants and menu items. (Aligns with New Horizons - Elementary 5 - Unit 6: At a restaurant)

Activity Overview
This game is a variation on ‘Go Fish!’, ideal for groups of 3-4 players.
The rules remain the same as the standard game (1 point per matched card pair).

A new rule for this variation is that any player who completes a ‘meal set’ (a pair of all 4 of the menu items from a restaurant) gets 6 bonus points!
(1 point per pair + 6 set meal bonus point = 10 points total for a set).

The backs of the cards show the restaurant logos, allowing players to use an element of strategy when picking from which player to ‘order’.

There are also ‘wildcards’ which can be added or removed depending on the ability of the class. If a player picks up a wildcard after having ‘gone fishing’, they play the card instantly, allowing them to steal or swap cards from other players, or get extra cards from the stack.

NB: If it your students' first time playing GoFish!, or if you're short on time, consider playing without ‘wildcards’.
NB 2: You can add additional restaurant menus to extend playtime and increase the number of food/drink vocabulary items.

Key dialogue:

P1) Pick another player (P2) by saying their name.
P2) What would you like?
P1) I’d like a OO, please. (I would like / I want )
P2) Okay, here you are. / Sorry, we’re out of OO. (Go fish!)

Continue clockwise, where the active player is P1 and the player they 'order' from is P2.

Notes:
Katakana is included as a quick help to students; but you should encourage a natural English pronunciation.

Printing Instructions:
For each group of students print 1 full set of cards @ A4 - double-sided print - flip page on the short side.

The final page can be used to wrap around the cards as an envelope and contains scoring information.
If you intend to laminate the cards you don't need to print the final 'envelope' pages.
I also recommend printing a demonstration set on A3 paper.

Flashcards can be used ahead of the activity to practice pronunciation.

      Awesome idea!
Any chance of uploading an editable version?
I'd like to doublesided print these to save paper but the tollerances on my schools printers make it so the back and front don't line up. I need to shift the backs over a little.
