Splattack 25 and Splathello

Splatoon-themed PowerPoint boards for playing Attack 25, Othello, or any similar games.

This PowerPoint can be used to play an Othello or Attack 25-style game. Both games can be played with two teams or four. Start from Slide 1, then click on the text of game you'd like to play. Macros are used, so make sure to enable them when you first open the file. If the macros are blocked automatically, you can right click on the file, select Properties, and check Unblock. Alternatively, look into how to allow them through the Trust Center.

Teams take turns choosing squares on the board to fill with their team's color. If they sandwich another team's square(s) with two of their own - called "outflanking" in Othello - then all squares in between will flip to their color. For example, OXXO will become OOOO. This can be done horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Whoever has captured the most squares at the end wins.

Attack 25 Summary
Panel Quiz Attack 25 is a Japanese gameshow that loosely follows the rules of Othello. On the show, the contestants are asked questions, and the first one to buzz in is able to choose a square to capture and change to their color (always starting with #13). One of the biggest differences being Attack 25 and Othello is that you can only flip one square/card at a time. So OXO will become OOO, but OXXO will not work. This can be changed in the Settings menu for your own game.

I generally don't user buzzer-style games with the whole class because 2-3 students usually end up dominating. So I usually just let them answer in order. Depending on the students, I will sometimes let them choose any square rather than restrict them to branching off from the center. I also have the group's speaker change every round so that everyone has a chance to answer.

There are two ways I usually play this kind of grid-based game. Jeopardy style, or making sentences.
In Jeopardy style, each column represents a different category or grammar point (written on the board). They choose a square, and I ask them a question based on that category. This method will generally take the whole class. If we look like we're running out of time, I'll do a round or two without questions. They choose a square and we move on.

For younger students, I have the header letters and numbers correspond to different vocabulary words used to complete a sentence.
For example, numbers are shapes and letters are colors. So A = red, B = blue, etc. They choose a square by saying “I want a [A. red] [3. circle] please.” This method will generally take about 20 minutes (you may have to set a timer for how long they have to decide).

This is amazingly well built. One of my special classes love Othello and Splatoon so I can't wait to use this with them.

I tried playing the four player mode but it`s broken when I click the squids they disappear and I get a weird notification that says this shape doesn't exist.

Did you start from the first slide? If you try to skip straight to one of the other slides, errors can occur. I'm trying to replicate that error, but am not currently able to get it to appear.

I got a "dangerous macro" warning from it and it would not run properly.

The macro warnings are very common when downloading any Office file with macros, regardless of if they are actually dangerous. If it does not give you the option to allow the macros, you can right click on the file, go to Properties, then check "Unblock" at the bottom. Alternatively, allow it through the Trust Center in the PowerPoint settings. There are a number of guides online that can help you. Once the macros have been enabled, it should work properly.

hi I wanted to play this but nothing works. do i have to download something else to make this run?

@genieg It will not work unless macros are enabled. I gave a quick explanation above, but there are also various guides online to enable macros on an Excel file. For security reasons, Microsoft defaults to not allowing any macros from downloaded files. However these macros are all harmless.
