This is a quick and fun activity that can be used to practice the grammar that’s on page 64.
You will need:
~ Cards with vocabulary; enough for 6 groups each (not provided)
~ PPT slide with sentences (provided below)
~ Worksheet for students to practice (provided below)
How to play
- Students should be placed in groups, depending on your class size. I typically get 5 - 6 groups.
- Each group will receive 5 cards each with vocabulary (I used ‘made’, ‘painted’, ‘written’, ‘drawn’ and ‘sung’)
- Students will then be given instructions on how the game should be played - a sentence will be displayed on the board, students will get a short time to read and decide as a group on which vocabulary card best fits the sentence on the board
- The group that raises their hand the fastest and has the right vocabulary card displayed wins points.
- The aim is to be the group with the most points. The JTE can be the one to keep scores and identify which groups raise their hands first.
NOTE: The first five slides are warm-ups just to get students into the idea of how to use the words in sentences. Students should, however, still receive points during this part.
- Student groups will then advance to the ‘LEVEL UP!’ slides to challenge them a little. This section simply adds more ‘information’ to the sentences but the general idea of the game remains the same. Please note that using ‘sung’ in this section might be a little confusing so feel free to ask your JTE to explain or stop to ensure that students are clear on using this (or you can skip it altogether but you will need to remove the sentences from the slides and the worksheet).
*****To close things out, you can give students a simple worksheet to practice.
I hope you find this useful! Also, if you have any ideas on how to make this better, please feel free to let me know!
Hello. Great activity! However, I'm not sure the sentences in the first 5 slides are gramatically correct. Example; Tangle is made by Disney. I would assume; "Tangle was made by Disney." should be the correct sentence. If it is an ongoing project, then "Tangle is being made by Disney." would suffice. What do you think?
Hi - thank you! I think using "Tangled is made by Disney" is a-okay. We're just showing that the creator of the movie is Disney. It's used in the sense of providing a general truth or fact.
Got it! Thank you for the clarification. I did the activity with my students and they loved it!
No problem! Aw - yaay! I'm happy to hear that :)
