My JTE wanted me to make a full lesson for New Horizon 1's Stage Activity 1: All About Me, so I obliged (rip)
THE MAIN GOAL of this activity is to once again familiarize students with using "I'm...", "He/She is..." "He/She + verb+s", and "His/Her..." - they don't have to be perfect (mine certainly aren't!) but they should at least be thinking about what is appropriate to use where.
Below is a quick overview:
WARM UP - Eraser game (5 minutes)
Students make pairs. There should be one eraser per pair. When a student asks a question, they give the other student the eraser. The other student has to answer, then ask another question. Basically, they pass the eraser back and forth asking each other questions. Whoever has the eraser by the time is up is the loser. I recommend doing this for 3 rounds and maybe even switching up the pairs. Of course, you shouldn't show them the timer either. The time should be totally random.
I displayed some questions for students who don't work well under pressure (in the Powerpoint)
DEMONSTRATION - All About ALT (5 minutes)
These students know me pretty well so it felt kinda silly doing this, but regardless!
I gave them my self introduction using vocab they already know. Then, I had them look at their worksheets and answer 3 questions about my introduction. I called on random students and we all checked the meaning together.
MAIN ACTIVITY - All About ME (10-15 minutes)
Students should do the same as what you demonstrated, but on their worksheet. I told them I'd give them 10 minutes, but honestly they take way longer like I expected. 10 minutes gives them some sense of urgency, at least. I also displayed some prompts they could use in the Powerpoint. It's a lot of hand-holding but mine need it. You're welcome to have them fend on their own if you're willing to prepare to read a bunch of "I like..." statements haha
LET'S TALK! - All About My Friend (5-10 minutes)
Have students switch worksheets with the person next to them. Stand up, and they have to introduce that person. This is... His/Her birthday is... He/She... etc.
If you think you have time, you can do this for a couple of rounds.
COOL DOWN - Writing (5-10 minutes)
Students can introduce anyone at their school. You can also change this to anyone in the class and have them interview the person they want to write about beforehand. I think the latter is much better if you have time.
That's all! I will attach my Powerpoint and worksheet, as well as some samples of my own self introduction, worksheet, and stuff for reference.
Enjoy!
