Students design an original greeting card based off of their friend's requests.
Students take turns requesting their cards using the following sentence frames:
A: What do you want?
B: (color+shape) please
A: How many?
B: (#) please.
Students fold the card in half. Then they use colored pencils to color in the number of shapes their friend would like on their card in the checklist. Finally, students design their original greeting card by cutting out the shapes their friend requested and gluing them on either the front or inside of the card. I usually try not to put too many restrictions on their creativity and just let them have fun with designing their card, as long as they cut out the number of shapes requested by their friend.
Since Christmas is soon and we don't have much time for students to decorate, my JET and I decided to make student's cards Christmas themed and we added a tree to the front of the card to get students started. We also told students to only request the number of shapes they wanted (rather than adding on color for the request). However, please feel free to use this resource however you'd like. If you would like to allow students to design any kind of greeting card, I also attached a blank version of the worksheet.
Hope this helps!
This is excellent, thank you! This unit is such a pain to do, but this is so helpful.
