This Powerpoint can be used for reviewing B and V phonics, but feel free to edit and use to replace B and V with different phonics like R and L. I found using this Powerpoint as a warm up to sports vocabulary was really effective in eliciting the V sounds in 'Volleyball' and B in 'Baseball' 'Basketball' 'Badminton' etc.
Introduce the two phonics that will be introduced or reviewed in the Powerpoint, it helps to also write them on the board but spaced apart at different ends.
Then introduce the first level, which is the first phonic. Say the phonic several times with the students, say, then have them repeat back. It helps to do it in fun or silly patterns after the first few times. Then the slides will go on to show different objects that use that sounds. With 1st-2nd grade Elementary school, I focus on the sound of the object rather than the knowledge of what that object is to begin with. With 5th and 6th Grade I try and get them to guess the vocab before going ahead with the phonics. We then do the same with the words based of the other phonic. Each time I point the to letter written on the blackboard.
Then, introduce the Boss Level which is listening for which phonic belongs to which letter.
I tend to gesture in the direction B is written for B several times until they know that side corresponds "B" and I do the same with "V".
Then I ask them to listen carefully and say one of the words, and get the students to gesture left or right, B or V- to see which is the right one.
I then repeat this until the final slide.
Nice, kids love Mario. Maybe add some slides where the 'b' or 'v' is missing. Students should listen and select the one they heard.
Great development game idea! do feel youve missed a trick, not calling it Mario and Phonic at The Olympic Games but thats just me XD Amazing fun activity thank you very much!
Great activity. Allow me to use this PowerPoint and add some of it.
I haven’t seen bstokes22 post in awhile but I’m sure they’d love it if you add ideas and share with the community. It’s one of the reasons we post our activities, to get new ways of doing things.
