This is a simple alphabet quiz, great for 3rd and 4th graders where they are starting to learn upper and lower case letters.
Each slide has different alphabets overlapping each other and the aim of the students is to guess what kind of alphabets there are in the slide. With my students, I get them into groups and give a worksheet to each and they have to write down the alphabets that they think are present.
Before getting them to write, get them to ask you "How many letters are there?" and then you tell them how many alphabets there are so that they're not writing like, more than 10 or 20.
Once you give them a sufficient amount of time to write, show them the answers by pressing next on the slide and the alphabet will come out.
All of my students were very engaged during this activity and it's great to get them to familiarise themselves with the alphabet.
Edit: Updated slides with numbers on them so it's easy to keep track and uploaded answer sheet.
Very cool.
Thanks Robert!
This is very cool! My kids loved it!
I would recommend writing the number on the slide or including a printout for teachers with the answers. Because looking at them even I have no idea, lol. So I went through it before hand to write it all down. Also I dont know if it is a me problem but your worksheet prints as a B5 so I made a new A4 one with writting lines for the kids.
I'm glad your kids loved it! and thank you for the suggestions, I'll make some edits and upload the answer sheet. But yes, I also should have pointed out that my worksheet actually prints B4 so there's more writing space for the kids
My students really enjoyed this. All of them from 3-6th grade ES were focused and talking trying to figure some of the letters out. Would get a large surprised yell whenever they were wrong. Simple activity, but great fun.
I love these games. Just fyi you can easily turn it into a no prep activity (no worksheets) by having the whole class participate by raising their hand to guess a letter. I write out the number of slides on the board with an _ for each letter that i fill in when correctly guessed.
ex.
1. _ _
1. H T
I find alphabet lessons to be tricky so thanks for this lifesaver! The only change I made was the font for the capital 'I' as this font makes it appear the same as lowercase 'L'. Not sure how particular others may be with that, so just a heads up! Really enjoy any activity that involves teamwork as of late.
My kids love this activity. I use it over two lessons because they get too into it, haha.
I did this as a pair work activity with the 4th graders and it was really nice to see them discussing with each other. They were so engaged, and would get excited when checking the answers. Particularly loved seeing their surprised reactions and their "ehhhhh" when an unexpected letter came out XD Thank you for this!
Thank you all for the comments! I'm really happy to hear that all your students are enjoying this game! Feel free to edit it any way you like and I hope the kids enjoy the Alphabets section through this game!
Nice activity :). I'd only change "alphabets" to "letters". Some people might say “alphabets” when they mean “letters” because they are thinking of the entire set of letters in a language. Technically, “alphabet” refers to the whole collection of letters, while “letters” are the individual characters within that set.
nice activity for my 3rd graders. They really enjoyed it thank you so much.
This activity is really exciting for the kids.
