Simple and fun game to review food especially for lower grade levels. I've tried this on my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders and they totally enjoyed it. Special thanks to @UonumaRobert for the template inspiration.
1st part: Review new words
- Use the 'Food Flashcards' Powerpoint to review the words for food.
- You can also print it out and stick to the board. Whichever works best for you.
2nd part: Snorlax Eating Game
- Divide the class into teams. (I made 2 teams and 6 teams version but feel free to edit it)
- You can ask them to play janken to determine whose team gets to choose first. Once decided, ask each group to choose their own team color.
- Explain that Snorlax (or Kabigon in Japanese) is hungry and he wants to eat many food. The students need to guess which food does Snorlax wants to eat.
- Click anywhere to reveal 3 food items.
- Click the color box and a star will appear. This will indicate the teams chosen food item.
- Click again anywhere to reveal Snorlax.
- Keep track of the points on the board.
Feel free to add more slides or food items. Enjoy!
This is so cute! Going to try it out with my kindergarten class.
@Charg, thank you! I hope they enjoy this game! :)
This looks fun! But where is the "food flashcards" powerpoint that you mention in the beginning?
@hamauni, ohh! Thank you for noticing. I updated the files and included the food flashcards. Enjoy! :)
This is a great idea. Thank you!
Great! Thank you for updating!
Great idea! The kids loved it.
I really want to do this and think its very cute! <3
but I am confused about why there is two (or six) boxes under each food, and just one answer.
sorry for asking a probably very stupid question. But hopefully someday i can do this activity! it looks like you put a lot of time into it, and i think its very interesting!
thankyou!
@yellowbird, no problem asking at all! :)
As for the rules, if there are 2 teams per class, each team can only choose 1 food item out of the three. Ask each team which food do they think Kabigon likes and click the box corresponding to the team's color so there should only be 2 stars showing per slide. Same with the 6 teams version. There should only be 6 stars showing per slide representing each team's color. Of course the teams can choose the same item.
Hope this clarifies the confusion! Feel free to leave another comment if it's still not clear. Enjoy! :)
Is there a way to change the foods? I want to use more difficult food vocabulary
@mkapes14, yes there is! Just right click on the photo you want to change and click the Change/Replace PIcture option. If your Powerpoint is in Japanese, look for the Kanji (図の変更). Hope this helps! :)
