Activity

FRIENDS Bingo!

Students go around the class asking each other questions to fill their bingo card

I've made this lesson so students are able to get to know each other :)

There are 3 levels
Easy: 2 types of questions (Do you like...? Do you play...?)
Medium: 3 types of questions (Do you like...? Do you play...? Do you have...?
Hard: 3 types of questions (Do you like...? Do you have...? What/Who is your favorite...?
Additionally, students must ask "When is your birthday?" in all levels.
I typically change the month to the current month so students can find out who has a birthday this month.
(There was a class where it was the student's birthday that day, so we stopped the game and quickly sang happy birthday!)

I start the lesson by explaining the TV show, who the characters are and then play a clip of the show (with context of what is going on).
Then singing time! First, students will listen to the theme song, then they will practice and sing along.

Next is the main activity. First I explain the rules:
1. They must ask the questions in ENGLISH. We go over the grammar and vocabulary.
2. They can only write a name ONCE. No repeats, this way students will have to ask multiple classmates.
3. The sentence/answer must be true.
4. Last unofficial rule: YELL BINGO!! But some students are shy so I tell them they can come tap me on my shoulder :)

There are 4 rounds: One line, two lines, large kite (they enjoyed this one as they have never seen it before) and full.
You can stop anytime time you like or just do certain rounds to fit your preference.
I have been able to do all 4 rounds in a 55 minute class.

When I (or the student) yell BINGO, all students must return to their seats.
I like the have the student that got BINGO read some of their sentences, if there are multiple students that got BINGO, they can each read one sentence. I reward them with stickers.
If your class is too shy, you could read the sentence for them.
Then the next round starts!

There is another fun clip of the show in case there are some minutes left in the class.
I have enjoyed doing this activity. I like to do it at the beginning of the school year so they can start forming friendships.
You and the JTE can join the students and fill your own BINGO cards.
Walk around to motivate students to ask each other questions, you can help by pairing students, and just keeping control of the class.
Also, you can change the BINGO card to fit your target grammar point (:

I hope you enjoy :D

      Ps. Update:
I've uploaded smaller file versions of the powerpoints so they can be downloaded without a subscription (:
The only difference is that I've deleted 2 videos.
