WHAT'S NEW:
Update: 5/10/2023
Fixed the challenge section for "[JHS][2ND][LT2] Word Eraser - Asking for Permission, Making Requests (p. 37)"
Update: 4/10/2023
- Uploaded all the NH1, NH2, NH3 JHS text extracted from the disk in the attachment below.
I originally got this idea from a JTE and loved it and decided to make a game out of it.

Works great for:
- Let’s Read, Let’s Talk, any dialogues, pretty much any text that has enough words for the students to erase
Things to do before class:
- Make a worksheet with sentences for students to erase
NOTE: For all the text from the New Horizon Textbook (English and Japanese), please look at the attachments below.
Required Materials:
- Marker pen, correction tape, or pencil to erase the words
For detailed notes on how to play this game, it's all included in the notes section (PPTX file)
TLDR Ver (How to Play):
- Practice target sentence with students
- Make pairs
- Students swap worksheets, they can erase any 5 words
- Students do rock, paper, scissors. Winner gets to erase 2 words on their partner’s worksheet
- Loser will try and say the sentence
- Winner will need to pay close attention to what their partner is saying and can correct them if they make any mistakes or need extra assistance
- Then the winner reads their text on their worksheet
- They do rock, paper, scissors again and repeat the process
- [OPTIONAL] In the last 5 minutes, to create some chaos, the winner can erase 5 words. (look at the last slide)
DIFFERENT WAYS TO PLAY
- Instead of only having winner erase the words, they can take turns erasing each other's words to make it fairer
NOTE:
- If you have time, it's great to include a cheat sheet of all the text at the back of the sheet for students to refer to if they're struggling. Please take a look at my worksheets as a reference
This looks amazing! I definitely want to give this a try! Thank you!
Thanks @Celestar129. :)
Best of luck!
