Scene It

Details and Background:
This is a PowerPoint Scene It game that I made as a year-end review for my Japanese 3rd grade elementary schoolers. It's based off the 90's/00's game and is really popular to play in Korea when you need a good timefiller for most/an entire class period.

When I used this type of game in Korea, I usually chose English dubbed videos for my middle schoolers. Because this is a newer concept in Japanese elementary schools, I made this one Japanese dubbed and added English subtitles for the ALTs.

This game is not intended to be a "teaching moment"; I want kids to relax and have fun watching videos and answering questions with their classmates. The student's should have seen most of these questions before, but if I doubted it, I added a little bit of Japanese to aid them.
Questions are like "How many animals?" or "What's this?"

Age Group:
3rd Grade Elementary School.

Goal:
Watch the Japanese dubbed videos (aprox 1-2 min), answer multiple choice questions with your team for points. Team with the most points at the end wins~

Materials:
- Whiteboards, markers, erasers for all teams.
- Blackboard or somewhere for ALT to keep score
- TV + HDMI + PowerPoint displayed laptop

1. • Split the class into teams, max 8 teams.
   • Give out whiteboards and stuff each team needs.
2. • Fire up the PowerPoint and lay down the game's basics.
3. • Go to the "Videos" part of the PowerPoint.
   • Teams choose a letter block for a movie clip.
   • Watch the clip in full.
4. • After the clip, move to the next slide for the first question.
   • Have teams write their answers on their whiteboards.
   • Countdown, then reveal answers.
5. • Show the correct answer.
   • Winning teams get to pick 1 prize from the next "Prize" slide. (There are only 8 prize items to choose from, hence why there is a maximum of 8 teams)
   • Keep track of points on a blackboard so everyone can see.

6.- Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the remaining 2 questions.
- Use the rocket icon on the last "Prize" slide to go back to pick another video.
- Keep playing until class ends!

- The videos in the PowerPoint are also on YouTube.
- If the internet's down, the embedded videos make sure the game goes on smoothly.
