🌟 What Is This Game?
This is a Scene It-style PowerPoint game I created as a year-end review for my elementary school students. The concept is based on the popular 90s/00s Scene It game and has been a hit as a fun time filler for an entire class period!
In Korea, I used to play this with English-dubbed videos for middle schoolers. Since this is a newer idea for Japanese elementary schools, I made it Japanese-dubbed with English subtitles for the ALTs.
💡 Important: This game isn’t meant to be a teaching moment—it's all about relaxing and having fun while working as a team to answer simple questions like:
"How many animals?"
"What’s this?"
🎯 Goal
1) Watch short Japanese-dubbed clips (approx. 1–2 min).
2) Answer multiple-choice questions as a team.
3) Earn points, and the team with the most points wins! 🎉
🛠️ Materials
- Whiteboards, markers, and erasers (one per team).
- Blackboard or scoreboard for keeping track of points.
- TV + HDMI cable + laptop for the PowerPoint.
👩🏫 How to Play
- Divide the class into teams (max 8 teams).
- Hand out whiteboards and supplies to each team.
- Start the PowerPoint and explain the rules.
- Go to the "Videos" slide.

- Repeat steps for all videos or until class ends!
📝 Extra Tips
- The videos are embedded in the PowerPoint and are also available on YouTube.
- If the internet goes down, don’t worry—embedded videos ensure smooth gameplay! 👍

I believe this should work. Be sure to download the font (Happy Monkey) to your PC first before you open the PPT or it might look a bit wonky
This is super well done, I regret not using this for my final classes this school year!
If you plan to upload more, I would definitely be interested in the English dubbed videos version- thank you for your amazing work!
Thank youuuuuuuuuu!!!
is there a reason you chose to dub it in Japanese rather than sub it in Japanese?
@apantalena Great question! When I first started creating ESL Scene It games, I was teaching lower-level 3rd and 4th-grade elementary students. At that age, many kids can’t read quickly enough in their native language to keep up with subtitles, so Japanese dubs helped avoid frustration and made the activity more engaging.
Additionally, finding YouTube videos with English dubs and Japanese subtitles was quite a challenge. In cases where subtitles didn’t exist, creating them required a lot of manual effort—double-checking translations and timing, which was time-consuming for even a short clip.
I’ve recently transitioned to ONLY teaching junior high school students, so I will experiment more with Japanese subtitles in the future! Thanks for asking~
