Shark Attack (Hangman Variant)

A Hangman style powerpoint for elementary schoolers to help with learning letters of the alphabet, colors, and job titles.

Thought I would drop this powerpoint here in case anyone else was teaching similiar things in elementary school and needed a game to kill some time. The game works essentially in the same way as hangman, except instead of a person getting hanged at the end it's a shark attack (which somehow feels less dark??). The words in the first portion are the names of colours and in the second portion it's the names of job titles.

For the teacher running the game, when a student chooses a letter, you can click on that letter in the powerpoint and it will either dissapear or go to it's place in the final word (if the letter is in the word twice you will have to click the letter twice).

If the letter dissapears, click on the shark fin and the next shark fin will pop up, moving the shark closer to the swimmer. Keep clicking on shark fins as they pop up when students get letters wrong and eventually you can click the last fin to trigger the "shark attack".

I find this activity worked best in my smaller-size classrooms, where students can take turns choosing letters and competing as individuals. However, you can also run the game in bigger classrooms, with the students split into groups. I will leave the Powerpoint and a small instruction sheet with the word list below.

How do you edit the list of words? I think number 2 from the Job is a bit diificult for my students to figure out :D

@dorisensei if you want to edit a word, you would need to edit the animations so that when you click the correct letters they move to the correct place in the final word. Try the 'animations' tab!
