I used these types of pptx flashcards in Korea for my middle school textbooks. The first time I did this in Korea I messed up and just clicked manually through Rounds 2-4 and got really confused. So don't be me lol. The auto-transition/auto-timing between slides is the main reason I like it. Keeps the class on pace and I can walk around more to listen to pronunciation.
Kids get pretty into this and 90% seem to walk away knowing all the new vocab at the end. Your co-teachers usually are shocked lol~
While the estimated time says up to 15 minutes, that's assuming you are introducing 30 new vocab words and need lots of time in round 1 to review. Most of these reviews are not introducing that many terms.
My digital flashcards so far for the textbooks:
-Let's Try 1
-Let's Try 2
-One World Smiles 5 (2020)
-One World Smiles 6 (2020)
-One World Smiles 5 (2024)
-One World Smiles 6 (2024)
How to use:
Start the PPTX
Round 1
- Click to go to the next slide.
- Have the kids guess the English vocab word from the screen based on the Japanese translation and picture. Then say the word and have the kids repeat.
Round 2
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- Have the kids say the English vocab word again as they appear. Keep going until you hit the Round 3 slide.
Round 3
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- The vocab slides are now shuffled. Have the kids say the words as the slides appear on the screen.
Round 4
- This is auto-timed so don't click to the next slide!
- The vocab slide shuffled again AND there are only the pictures to go off of! Have the kids say the words as the slides appear!
I've added a step-by-step guide that I wish I had had when I first started making my own Vocab Speed Reviews! Let me know if anything doesn't make sense. (Side note, if you are making your own, I suggest keeping it under 30 vocab terms, it can drag on otherwise).
I will be uploading future Vocabulary Speed Reviews on this page as my classes progress
very detailed instructions, thanks for sharing!
