A fun and short spelling powerpoint game that puts a small and more appropriate twist to hangman. This can be used for students to practice spelling names and small words using their basic knowledge of phonics. This game was created for the Let's Try 1 Unit 5 textbook, but it can also be used for the Let's Try 2 Unit 6 textbook. However, feel free to use this resource for anything you'd like! It makes for a good warm-up or time filler if needed.
This game is meant to be played as a class. Students need to guess each of the correct letter blocks in the spelling of the character's name or small word. Some levels have both the capital and lowercase letters, so make sure you ask students what letter they would like to guess. My students need more practice with writing capitals and lowercase in the appropriate places, so make sure to go over that before you play this game.
Click on the correct blocks to make them move into the spaces. If students guess the incorrect letter, the block will disappear. Click anywhere on the screen to make a shape covering the character disappear (there are 5 shapes in total, so students have about 5-6 guesses). Play the game until the character's name or word has been spelled correctly, or until all of the shapes covering the character have dissapeared. If students cannot spell the word/name right, a sad gif of the character will appear. If students spell the name/word right, click on the shape hiding the correct spelling of the name/word and a happy/funny gif will appear about 1.5 seconds later. To move onto the next slide, simply click on the red arrow at the bottom right of your screen.
Hope your kids have fun!
