My JTE asked me to make a quiz of celebrities, not born in Japan (or not only from Japan), to test their worldly knowledge.
I have two classes of JHS 1st Graders. This quiz went well with the one class, and then I realised I only had males! So I quickly added two females for my next class, but they did not go well (tip: even if your JTE says the kids will know, and the JTE knows who the celebs are, it is not always true)!
However, from the guesses the kids threw out, I have now change the two females to match the guesses. Thus, I present Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande instead of Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne (they did not know her infamous Hello Kitty song :( )!
How to play: it's a normal PowerPoint quiz. One class, the kids answered individually (the one that did well), and the other class they answered in pairs (they did not do well). You ask the question "Who is (s)he?", and the students respond by saying "(S)he is ..... ".
Reward: I gave them 1 sticker for the first round. Then a gif plays (difficult, very difficult), now they get two stickers. The final round, after a challenge gif, is a famous celebrity from my home country of South Africa (the one class got it immediately, the other one never got the answer - even though a week before they couldn't stop saying his name!!)
