Which do you like X or Y? Interview Map!

Students ask their friends if they like _____ or _____ and follow down the map with a colored highlighter/pen/pencil/crayon.

I always print out a larger size map to put on the board or have it shown on the TV. I'll then interview the JTE so that the students see how the activity works.

Next, pass out a map to all your students and have them make pairs. They will take turns asking each other "Which do you like, A or B?" and draw along the arrows using a colored highlighter/pen/pencil/crayon (I find highlighters work best). Then after they've each completed the interview they find new students to make pairs with. They then ask the questions again, but this time use a different color to mark the arrows following their answers. It's kind of fun to see which students have similar likes and where they diverge on the map and the colors helps keep their different partners separate.

You may want to bring along your own set of highlighters and such in case there are students with only pencils or black pens.

I'm also uploading a blank map so the students can write their own things in the spaces. I've had mixed results with this. Some classes can come up with stuff to write quickly and we can get moving on the activity, others require a lot more input from the teachers.
